Bad breath, or halitosis, can be embarrassing. There are a variety of products out there claiming to stop bad breath, but many of these are just a temporary fix and not a cure. According to the Mayo Clinic, there are a variety of things that can cause bad breath. Here’s just a few:

What you eat

It’s easy for food particles to get stuck in your teeth allowing bacteria to grow and create funky smells. Certain foods with strong odors can also affect your breath after digestion.

Tobacco products

Using tobacco products like cigarettes and chewing tobacco can cause bad breath and put you at risk for other dental and oral complications.

Dry mouth

Dry mouth, or Xerostomia, decreases the production of saliva which cleanses your mouth of bacteria. This can lead to odor.

Medication

Certain medications list stinky breath as a side effect. Check the labels on all meds you take regularly.

Other general health issues

Infections, surgical wounds, tooth decay, gum disease, etc. can all cause bad breath. Conditions related to the mouth, nose, and throat, or certain cancers and illnesses can cause bad breath.

It’s time to talk to an expert.
